Winter 2014 Newsletter
JANUARY 25, 2014
Aloha, We’re halfway through the 2013-2014 fiscal year for the American Marketing Association Hawaii Chapter, and there are so many exciting things to come. It’s amazing to think that 44 years ago, in 1970, AMA Hawaii began. As we enter into the 44th year of this chapter’s existence, I not only look forward to continuing with our legacy Marketer of the Year event, but I am also excited to add a new event that I hope continues to serve the community in years to come – a nonprofit marketing conference.
Also, keep your eyes peeled for a new AMA Hawaii logo and website. The Board of Directors have been working toward some new designs, and we are so excited to reveal them in the next few months…a special thanks to Robbie Watanabe at Core Group One for working with us on this exciting endeavor.A big mahalo to all of you who have continued your AMA membership throughout the years and to our new members who have found us amidst the many great professional organizations here in Hawaii.
Happy New Year!

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I’ve been very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with public relations students as both a professional mentor and an instructor in the classroom. I take great joy in helping others find their passion for this profession that I love. It’s very rewarding to see them grow and succeed.
What is your motto?
“Whatever you are doing, it’s not enough. Do more and do it better.” I learned this from my mentor, Craig Miyamoto, when I was very young in my career. It has always inspired me to strive for excellence and think outside of the box.
The American Marketing Association group membership program provides you and your colleagues with the industry’s most comprehensive resource to stay on top of the latest innovations and trends in the marketing world. With it, your group can develop and evolve from a collection of strong parts into a well-oiled marketing machine.

What book are you currently reading?
“Creating Room to Read” by John Wood. It’s about a technologist’s journey of leveraging his professional success to help inspire a global movement around literacy and gender equality. His nonprofit, Room to Read, provides access to local language children’s books and quality education in developing countries.
Ulupono Initiative makes investments in for-profit and non-profit organizations that help Hawaii increase its self-sufficiency through increased local food production, renewable energy adoption and waste reduction. Amy oversees all areas of marketing and communications for Ulupono including government and community relations, which are key to its statewide mission.
