Aloha,

Welcome to the first issue of the American Marketing Association – Hawaii chapter newsletter. We have many things to share with you including upcoming programs and our new board of directors for the 2013-2014 term. We’re committed to creating a rich and valuable experience for members in the coming year – we’ve taken on rebranding the AMA logo and are implementing new strategies for membership and events. We encourage you to provide us with feedback so that we can continue to better serve you. We’re looking forward to an exciting and productive 2014!

Member Spotlight

Jim Horiuchi
President, Core Group One

What is your greatest achievement?

Our greatest achievement is our son. (Most of the credit goes to my wife.) He never stops amazing us.

What is your motto?

Show up. Pay attention. Make connections.”

It’s a very simple motto, yet not so easy to fulfill. Show up with an open mind. Pay attention without jumping to conclusions. Make connections with new people and ideas.

What is your company’s philosophy/approach to marketing?

Core Group One’s organizational philosophy is “big brains, small machine.” It is a zero-hierarchy model designed for direct accountability, speed and efficiency. Everyone is accountable to each other and everyone is accountable to our clients and business partners.

Jim has over 30 years of marketing experience as writer, creative director, account director and director of strategy at advertising agencies from coast to coast: McCann-Erickson and InterCommnications in Los Angeles and McCaffrey and McCall in New York, as well as Peck Sims Mueller in Honolulu. In his spare time, Jim loves to run, read, eat healthily and spend time with his family. He is a model of healthy living and wants to be like the Dalai Lama—full of infinite wisdom and serenity.
